E-Way Bill system is now integrated with the Vahan system of the Transport Department.
Vehicle Number (RC) entered in the e-Way Bill will be verified with Vahan Data for its existence/ correctness. If the vehicle number does not exist, then the system will alert the user to check and correct the same.
If vehicle number (RC) is correct as per the taxpayer, then the system will allow it to continue with e-Way bill generation. However, he will be required to update the vehicle numbers in the VAHAN database so that the generation of e-Way Bill in the future will not be affected.
If the vehicle number is not updated in the VAHAN system, the user will get an "ALERT" message about the non-availability of vehicle numbers in the VAHAN database. However, such vehicles will not be allowed for the generation of the e-Way bills later.
Users must update the RC with concerned RTO, else the vehicle number will not be allowed for e-Way bill generation. VAHAN system provides a nation-wide search for data of registered vehicles. Hence, checking whether vehicle number is available in VAHAN System or not can be always checked.
To check vehicle number, check the link mentioned below:

If "Alert" message is shown despite vehicle number being registered, it is advisable to reach concerned RTO. Once vehicle details are updated in VAHAN System, status is the e-Way bill will be updated subsequently.
Vehicle Number with temporary registration for which details are not verified, such number must be entered with words "TR" in beginning.
If details of the vehicle are registered with VAHAN, an e-Way bill portal still shows that it's unavailable, the person should contact the e-Way bill helpdesk and submit a grievance specifying the vehicle number registered with VAHAN system.
